THE PLASTIC POLLUTING THE SEAS TRANSPORTS NON-NATIVE ANIMAL SPECIES ACROSS THE GLOBE.
  • Nikolai Maximenko and Jan Hafner of the International Pacific Research Center in Hawaii, two of the most important scientists in the world studying the marine environment, illustrate the "plastic routes" across the oceans.
  • A meeting promoted by Bio-on to raise awareness of the dramatic consequences that plastic pollution is creating in seas around the world.
  • The studies, conducted to date in the Pacific Ocean, will be extended to the Mediterranean Sea thanks to Bio-on's support.
MILAN, 22 September 2017 - Every year, approximately 8 million tons of plastic ends up in the seas across the planet*; pieces as large as entire ships; fragments a few centimetres long eaten by birds and fish; microscopic particles that enter the food chain, including our own. It is an enormous problem not only for the marine environment, the consequences of which are not yet fully understood and about which much more awareness is needed. The studies by Nikolai Maximenko and Jan Hafner, researchers at the International Pacific Research Center (School of Ocean & Earth Science & Technology) at the University of Hawaii, are decisive in understanding how these immense quantities of plastic move around the oceans.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS OF NEW BIO-ON PLANT FOR SPECIAL BIOPLASTICS PRODUCTION.
  • First plant from new Bio-on Plants business unit will produce Minerv Bio Cosmetics, the 100% biodegradable bioplastic destined to replace the microbeads in cosmetics that pollute the seas.
  • The plant will be operational in the first half of 2018 and will create 40 jobs.
  • Bio-on today announces it will invest a further 5 million Euro in boosting its research laboratories on top of the 15 million already announced, bringing the total investment in the production hub to 20 million.
  • A sustainable project. Bio-on has converted a former factory, meaning no new land is occupied or wasted.

BIO-ON AND GREENERGY FOCUS ON THE UK TO PRODUCE BIOPLASTIC FROM BIODIESEL CO-PRODUCT GLYCEROL
BOLOGNA, 16th March 2017 - Bio-on and Greenergy International Limited have signed an agreement to begin a technical collaboration, the first in the United Kingdom, to look at the possibility of producing PHAs bioplastic from Glycerol, a biodiesel production co-product. The two companies will work together to establish the feasibility of building in the United Kingdom a 5-thousand ton per year plant expandable to 10 thousand tons per year. «This would be northern Europe's most advanced plant producing PHAs biopolymers from glycerol»; says Marco Astorri, Chairman and CEO of Bio-on.

  • Volumes produced today are insufficient and market demand will explode in the coming years.

BOLOGNA 14/02/2017 - Bio-on has gained a place in the final of the European Business Awards (EBA), the most important and prestigious awards for successful businesses in Europe, and must now tackle the last stage of the selection process, which ends on 4 May when the winners are announced. The organisation, sponsored by RSM, has awarded Bio-on the Ruban d'Honneur in the "Entrepreneur of the Year" category. Bio-on is one of 110 finalists selected from over 33,000 companies participating in the first stage of the EBA and was chosen by an independent panel of jurors as displaying the award's core values: innovation, ethics and success.
